Are you interested in painting the preferred medium of the masters? If so let’s get you off on the right foot in this 4 week beginning oils class. This class is designed to give you the very basics of oil painting. We will cover materials, the basic set up, safe practices as well as concepts and techniques. If you just love it (and we think you will), Julie, our beginning oils instructor, will build on your knowledge and keep you progressing into the next class Next Step Beginning to Intermediate Oils. Julie will take you through your first project and paint it step by step with you. There are handouts and access to videos to help you on your own time or in class. Most classes will begin with a demo, small discussion/lecture or sharing to increase your knowledge and encourage you. If you have never painted in oils, it’s been a long time or have struggled because you didn’t get the basics, this is the class for you. Starter kits are available for purchase at WBCA or for an additional $25 we can supply all materials.

If you have taken the First Step Beginning Oils or have painted in oils before this class is for you. This ongoing class will take you through the entire process from concept to completion of a painting. Julie will gently help you first paint what you see and eventually will let you work independently. Most classes will begin with a demo, small discussion/lecture or sharing to increase your knowledge of all the aspects of art including drawing, value, color, planning for success and how to move beyond your reference /not be restricted by it. The instructor will use traditional oil paints, however, students can also use water mixable oils or acrylics. Julie promotes learning to mix colors by use of a suggested limited palette (warm and cool primaries) as well as limited use of solvents and safe handling practices. Beginner student projects will be offered and eventually progress to help you find your own artistic voice. Julie has a wealth of knowledge to share, and continuing students will keep growing in their knowledge and skill level.
